The Heart of the Good Life

Deuteronomy 4:39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.

A grasp of history is important to every generation because it gives a sense of identity. If you know who you are and where you came from, you will have an easier time discovering what you should be doing. A generation without identity is like a person without a birth certificate, a name, an address, or a family. If we don’t know who we are, our purpose and our destination may never become reality.

Deuteronomy is a sermon by Moses to remind Israel of their identity and of their past disobedience.  They are the children of God, they have a purpose to carry out God’s instructions, and in doing so will reach the promised land God had promised. Moses is hoping this current generation will learn from their fathers’ mistakes and live the Good Life!

How Israel should respond is how we should respond today.

Deuteronomy 4:39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
